We all have them; those wonder products we keep tucked away in our cosmetic bags, ready and waiting to help us look and feel our best.Whether yours is a go-to lipstick in a shade that's made for you or a skin-smoothing foundation you just can't be without, we were thinking; What beauty products have been most in-demand in the past 12 months?
Intrigued, we decided to find out. Using global Google search data, we identified the top beauty products from almost 30 of our favorite brands, based on those that had the largest increases in online searches over the past 12 months.

Revealed: The 160 Most Searched Beauty Products of 2021*
The table below shows the 160 beauty products that had the largest increase in Google searches over the past 12 months, based on global search data.
*Products with 'Breakout' search interest have had a 'tremendous increase, probably because these queries are new and had few (if any) prior searches'. This suggests the products had a surge in demand over the past 12 months. A breakout product, for example, could have been relatively unknown in 2020 and then have interest in 2021. Because of this, there'd be very little search data to compare it to and the query would thus have a breakout increase in searches according to Google.

The Beauty Brands with the Most In-Demand Products of the Past 12 Months
Which beauty brands created the most products that had us hooked over the past 12 months? According to our research, the top beauty brands that had the highest number of in-demand products were:
1 . Estee Lauder (13 products)
2 . Charlotte Tilbury (11 products)
3 . Smashbox (10 products)
4 . Clinique (10 products)
5 . MAC (10 products)

Our favorite Estee Lauder beauty product? The humble lipstick. Every one of the 13 products with the highest increase in online searches over the past 12 months was a lipstick. It seems we can't get enough of the brand's signature shades!

Smashbox:
Lipsticks make up the majority of Smashbox's top products, including the brand's innovative Ombre Lipstick, which makes blending your lip color easy. The brand's 24-hour foundation rounds off the top 10, with online searches up 1,800% in the past 12 months.

Clinique:
Clinique's popular products in 2021 were again led by lipsticks, with lip liners and even featuring a lip and cheek oil, suggesting fans of the brands were working on perfecting their pout in 2021.
MAC:
Out of the top five brands with the most in-demand beauty products, MAC has the most even split between different types of beauty products. Lipstick, foundation and mascara are all included, suggesting MAC fans rely on the brand for their full face of makeup.

About the data:
The data collected from Google Trends represents global searches and relates to the period from 12th December 2020 - 11th December 2021. 29 popular global brands were selected for analysis.
Only product-specific search terms were included in our analysis: generic terms such as 'L'Oreal lipstick' were omitted.
Google defines 'breakout' search terms as those that have had 'a tremendous increase, probably because these queries are new and had few (if any) prior searches.'
